Can more than one image be analyzed at a time?
Yes, one can analyze more than one image at a time, up to a total of ten images.
What is the max file size of images that can be submitted at once?
Up to 4MBs of files can be submitted at once.
Does image quality of the image uploaded matter?
Yes, if the image is low resolution the efficacy of the tool may be adversely affected.
What are some tips for taking clear photos?
It is best to upload a photo where the product is fully in the frame, not obscured by fingers or items, and the background is free of busy patterns or textures.
What image formats are supported?
JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP
Are there any usage limits?
No, you can upload as many images to the image analyzer as you would like. 6 requests in a minute
Does CPIA determine compliance or violations?
No. CPIA does not make compliance determinations. It provides descriptive analysis to assist users in identifying potential areas of concern. Final compliance determinations are made by the Department on a case-by-case basis.
What types of images should be submitted?
The tool is designed to analyze cannabis product packaging and labeling.
How should I interpret the CPIA results?
CPIA highlights descriptive elements identified in the image that may relate to CCR Title 4 Section 17408(a)(2). Users should review applicable regulations and make adjustments to the packaging and labeling accordingly.
What happens if my image is rejected?
If an image does not meet the minimum requirements, the tool may reject the image or return limited results. Users should ensure images are clear, in optimal lighting, and fully captures the product labeling.
What if my product is found Potentially Non-compliant?
Review sections 17408(a)(2) and 15040(a)(2) and (3) of the regulations to assess whether any prohibited elements may appear on your packaging or labeling. The tool is intended to guide your self-assessment and is not an official compliance determination.

If a product you purchased is identified as potentially non-compliant, it means the packaging or labeling may not meet state regulatory requirements. This does not automatically mean the product is unsafe. However, if you believe a cannabis product is mislabeled or improperly packaged, you may also submit a complaint to the Department using the public complaint form.
Will the DCC Receive or review the results generated by this tool?
No. The imagery shared in this tool and the results it generates are not saved, transmitted, or reported to the Department. The tool is an educational resource only.
